1. Buyers work with agents. Most look at MLS listings. Sell it yourself, and they won t see or hear about your home. How do you find that "right" buyer or get top dollar when you re invisible to most of the market?

Start Early: I find that by getting up an hour or so before everyone else, I can accomplish so much more. That allows me the extra 10 minutes of devotional time, a few minutes to enjoy my coffee alone, and then time to dig into my work. I usually save my peak work for this time as this is truly when I m at my best.
Regroup and Rebalance: So often home-based moms feel overwhelmed and unable to accomplish anything because of this. Try breaking it all down, take a day or two to write down how your typical day goes. What can you change to make it better, to make it work? Often when it s down in writing, it s clearer to see where changes can be made. Try to lump together tasks and delegate any tasks you can. And above all else Avoid Guilt!! All guilt! Even the guilt you put on yourself.
Eliminate time-robbers! We still have to cook dinner, (I tried, it didn t work!) but I don t have to talk to my friend, who doesn t work, for 45 minutes during my workday. Say No!
Also, with my kids I found some of the work I actually could take outside or in another room. There s no rule that says I have to work at my desk. Perhaps you can create different workstations around the home. Be creative.

"Peruse the newspaper headlines in virtually any city in the U.S., and you ll undoubtedly run across a story about insurance fraud," says Tom Reitze, President of David Morse & Associates (www.davidmorse.com), providers of third-party administrator services, field adjusting services, specialty claims services, and fraud investigations. "Most consumers don t realize that 25 percent of their insurance premiums are ultimately used to pay fraudulent claims."
Indeed, in San Jose, Calif., 25 people in an auto fraud ring were recently indicted for allegedly staging and reporting two dozen fake car accidents during a five-year period, bilking insurance companies out of an estimated $400,000. David Morse & Associates and other companies provided critical information that led to the arrests and indictments. In Bridgeport, Conn., a woman was recently convicted of torching her home in order to collect from her homeowner s insurance policy. And, in Sutton, Mass., a man pleaded guilty to worker s compensation fraud for collecting $70,000 in disability benefits while secretly working in a physically demanding job.
According to Reitze, David Morse & Associates is committed to combating insurance fraud, which ultimately helps consumers by keeping insurance premiums in check. "The premise of insurance is pooled risk, but when the bad guys bilk insurance companies, honest people suffer through higher premiums," he says. "That s why our fraud investigation unit prides itself in catching fraudsters in the act."
Reitze readily recalls any number of claims where David Morse & Associates fraud investigators and adjustors employed dogged legwork, quick thinking, and expertise to keep their clients from being defrauded and help honest consumers in the process.
In one instance, a David Morse & Associates investigator was assigned to a person alleging total disability who happened to live in a rural farming community. The investigator was inventive in locating the residence of the man, but when he was not at home, the investigator had to turn to townspeople for help. The investigator was told that the "disabled" claimant was building a house in a nearby town. Reitze points out with pride, "Although the investigator was required to videotape the man, he found himself in the midst of fields, with no place to hide his vehicle. Using his imagination, he staged a vehicle breakdown on the side of the highway, and managed to capture video of the man bouncing around over rough ground on a tractor and manhandling bales of hay. Thanks to the inventiveness of the investigator, the videotape was enough to end the disability claim of the farmer."
In another situation, a David Morse & Associates truck adjustor found himself at odds with the California Highway Patrol. After a tractor-trailer collided with a van and overturned on a Los Angeles freeway, the CHP made a determination that the rig had been speeding. Although the adjustor knew that the truck had an engine governor that prevented it from speeding, the CHP wouldn t budge, exposing the trucking company to a million-dollar liability suit. The relentless adjustor duplicated the conditions with a replica truck and load, and had a CHP expert ride along, which convinced the CHP that the truck wasn t speeding. Following his suspicion the van was actually backing up on the freeway when it was hit, the adjustor consulted with David Morse & Associates reconstruction engineer. His theory was confirmed when the lab discovered the telltale signs of stretched filaments in the van s taillights, indicating that the van had been in reverse and the backup lights were on at the time of impact. Because of the adjustor s diligence, the million-dollar claim was arbitrated for a relatively small amount.

As an example, a truck driver was making a turn and didn t see a pedestrian in the crosswalk. The truck screeched to a halt, but the man was knocked backwards and struck his head on the pavement. Although the man refused ambulance services, the adjustor could see that he was shaken and concerned. The pedestrian was given a clean bill of health and was pleased with the outcome and attention he received.

A nice level, smooth driveway is the fervent wish of many homeowners. In reality, though, it s harder to achieve than one might think. Concrete is expensive and takes a significant amount of time to set. Asphalt is inexpensive and sets within hours.

If you re repairing an existing asphalt driveway, before you consider taking on the more expensive project of laying new asphalt you may want to look at some cheaper alternatives. For a generally cracked, ugly driveway, you can buy driveway sealer and crack sealer from most any hardware or home improvement store. This is the fast, cheap way to seal up cracks, seal the surface as a whole, and black it again. For everything else, you ll want hot-mix asphalt.

Hot-mix asphalt is the very same asphalt you see burly highway road crews laying down. For the homeowner, though, hot-mix asphalt does not involve big machines. It s the same material but the application process is more basic. Hot-mix asphalt is an aggregate of gravel and sand mixed in with hot, liquid asphalt. When we say "hot" we mean it. Hot-mix applies at over 300 degrees F, and quickly cools to a workable 175 degrees F.

With hot-mix asphalt driveway, you have two options: overlay or full-depth asphalt paving. As the name implies, overlay is a thin "overlay" of a thin layer of asphalt driveway over your existing driveway. Your existing driveway, as bad as it might be, still needs to provide a firm, substantial base, or this option will not work. The second option is to jackhammer your existing driveway and lay down a full-depth asphalt driveway.

As you can guess, the full-depth asphalt driveway is the more expensive option. Not only do you incur the cost of jackhammering the existing drive, but you must lay down a bed of gravel before the asphalt. Oh, and did we mention that the layer of asphalt must also be thicker? That adds to the cost, too.

Read up as much on the subject as you can before calling any contractors. The topic of asphalt driveway paving is pretty much dominated by the industry, with few voices dedicated to the consumer.

Finding Balance In A Tilted World

THE STRUGGLE -- I was recently talking with one of my entrepreneur friends. He has started three businesses in the last several years a budding entrepreneur. He was relating some of the joys he has experienced in those enterprises: a sense of freedom from the corporate world, pursuing his dreams and passions, setting his own schedule, controlling his destiny and a large potential for financial rewards.

However, he did mention a few downsides: little to no outside accountability, lack of consistent capital, feelings of loneliness, no steady revenue stream, feeling disconnected from others who don t understand his drive to succeed, constant struggles to survive and a severe lack of work-life balance. Sound familiar?

I think most entrepreneurs struggle with similar issues, especially balance. There are many reasons they can give for their lack of life balance and low satisfaction: I have too much work to do. I just need a few more hours to finish this project. I need more money. I have bills to pay. My business depends on my hard work. My family needs more income. I am solely responsible for developing, marketing, selling and servicing my product or service.

Any or all of these reasons may be true, which might lead entrepreneurs to find great difficulty in managing the two sides of entrepreneurship balance and success. How often do you struggle with working longer hours than you know you should to try and secure the next sale? How many times has your family and friends tried to pull you away from your office this last month? Take a moment and count up the actual hours you have spent working this last week or month. There is always the temptation to do a little more, work a little harder, talk to one more potential customer in hopes of making one more sale.

What specific things are you doing to take care of yourself: physically, emotionally, and spiritually? Many entrepreneurs overlook these vital areas of life in search of professional success, yet these areas are full of potential for sparking the creative, outside of the box thinking that leads entrepreneurs like yourself to discover life changing products and services and find a new perspective on your business venture.

ASSESS WHERE YOU ARE

Take a moment and write down these 8 life areas:

friends & family

fun & recreation

physical environment & home

romance & significant other

fitness & health

career

finances

personal & spiritual growth

Next to each area assess where you currently are. On a scale of 1 to 7, with 1 being completely dissatisfied and 7 being completely satisfied mark how currently you are satisfied in each area. Add up the totals of all eight areas before reading further. The scoring is at the end of this article.

DEVELOP A PLAN

As you look at your current level of satisfaction what patters or themes do you see? Where areas are you the least satisfied with? The most?

For you who recognize a change is in order, here are a five simple steps to help you start finding the work-life balance that leads to success:

1. Choose 1 area that you are dissatisfied with and would like to see some immediate improvement in. This should not be your worst or best scoring area, but somewhere in the middle. Take a couple minutes and write down in detail what balance would look like for you in that area.

2. Now, get out your planner and make a note to yourself one week from today. In the note, write down:

the area that you want to improve your level of satisfaction in

the score where you are now and the score you want to be at the next week

2 things you are going to do to move yourself towards that goal over this next week

3. Tell someone about your goal and ask them to hold you accountable whether it s a friend, a mentor, or your coach. It s easy to make new year, new leaf promises to yourself, but more difficult to follow through with unless you know someone is holding you accountable to reach your goal.

4. Set up a time to talk with your accountability partner the next week. Did you reach your goal? If not, talk about what kept you from reaching it and what will you do differently this next week. If you did reach your goal, congratulate yourself. Do something simple to celebrate your achievement.

5. The final step is to go back to step 1 and do it over again.

Creating life balance is never easy and it s never complete. There will always be room for improvement. The point is that you can make your life more balanced by taking small steps in the right direction. Like most worthwhile things in life, creating life balance is a process, not an event!

The History of the Parsons Dining Chair

The name parsons chair is frequently bandied about as a marketing term and seen on the sites of many furniture retailers. However, many consumers are unaware of what the chair is, where it came from, and what purpose it s supposed to serve. This article gives a brief rundown on the origin and development of the parsons chair.
A parsons chair is a special kind of upholstered dining chair. The name has nothing to do with the clergy. The chair was named for its origin it was created in Paris in the 1930s, by a designer at the famous Parsons School of Design.
When designing the chair, the Parsons School designers didn t radically reinvent the idea of the chair (as, say, the Bauhaus did in Germany). Instead, the designers streamlined historical influences, kept what worked, threw away what didn t, and created an enduring modern classic.
The main traits of the parsons chair its naturalism, simplicity and linear look are classic Modernist traits, but the style reflects 1800s Mission and Arts and Crafts styles, the Art Nouveau styles that emerged later, and the Art Deco that was contemporary at the time of the parsons chair s design. The simplicity of the chair fits with these styles and a great variety of others, both classic and modern.
Originally, the parsons chair was meant to be used in a set with the parsons table, whose linear look reflects a similar aesthetic in the matching chair. However, in a bit of irony, the simplicity of both has led to them being adapted separately into many styles of furniture and decor. The result? Today, they are rarely seen together. The parsons style is so adaptable that many who own a parsons table or a parsons chair have no idea that companion pieces exist.
The parsons chair is virtually always crafted of hardwood, and features a slightly curving, squared backrest and legs. They are usually featured with slipcover upholstery that entirely covers the legs and gives the chair a solid, monumental appearance. This slipcover is optional or absent on many recent models.
Most parsons chairs nowadays are direct clones of the original Parsons School design. However, many recent variations exist, including versions with cabriole legs, Chippendale-influenced designs, shorter or taller designs, and versions with armrests, versions inspired more or less by Art Nouveau or Art Deco, and so on. The original Parsons School design was upholstered in leather, and this is still a very popular upholstery option, though microfabrics are increasingly used. The wide variety of options available today should ensure that you ll be able to find one that s right for you.
Due to its simplicity, comfort and ease of cleaning, the parsons chair remains enduringly popular, especially in restaurants. How to Establish Yourself as an Expert

Have you established yourself as an Expert in your field? If not, this is a great way to get added exposure, publicity and credibility for you and your business which will ultimately bring you more sales and more money!!
Many business professionals I know are so good at what they do but the problem is that everyone else doesn t know that about them. When you think about what kind of image you want to present to the public and business community - what is that? What do you look like (in your mind)?
Do you think everyone else sees you the same way or do you suppose they might have a different impression of you? My friends at Y2Marketing call this your Inside Reality vs. your Outside Perception . Your Inside Reality is what you think you are being perceived as and your Outside Perception is what people are actually perceiving you as. Many business owners get this confused or don t realize that their Outside Perception doesn t match their Inside Reality.
It s good to be seen as an Expert in your field, I know, many people see me this way. I believe it s due to my exposure in the community and the local chambers at events and meetings, on committee s and as a volunteer; it could also be due to me having established my Marketing Seminars which get published in the local newspaper and local Business Journal; it could also be due to the fact that I ve spoken in front of sales teams, chamber groups, business training meetings, women s organizations and even a high school class.
One of the main reasons though could be because when I meet people I instantly want to help them and give them advice on their marketing; whether it s critiquing their business card or brochure, suggesting they get a nametag or car sign or if I give them suggestions on where to and where not to advertise their business. This alone sets me apart (as would it you) because I am educating and informing people on their marketing, not trying to sell them something or convince them to use my services.
Think of ways you could establish yourself as an expert - how can you get involved and/or get noticed? Here are some questions to ask yourself:
1. What is your Outside Perception? If you don t know, I would suggest asking some of your clients, peers, friends, etc. Ask those who would be honest with their feedback and see what they say. See if what they say is what you want it to be. If not, you will want to see how you can adjust your brand, your marketing message, your positioning, your products or services, pricing, etc. Don t go crazy with all of this and don t go changing things on one or two people s opinions but be proactive and look at yourself and your business from the outside in.
2. What kinds of clients or people do you attract? This somewhat relates to your target market which means if you attract one type of person who wants to listen to you or do business with you and you are targeting a whole different type of person - then you might want to rethink who you re targeting? So, where can you find more people that are attracted to you? Do they have a professional organization you can speak at or advertise to?
3. What kind of articles, how to tips or stories can you write that will be of interest to the general public or are hot topics for the media? If you find some hot topics, then find a way to write about them. Develop articles to post on your website, offer online to article publishing sites, offer local media to publish, edit or quote you from or research online for other media sources that these would be of interest to. Then don t forget to highlight yourself when published to your list on your website, by email or mail.
4. Where can you speak on similar topics of interest? Are there professional, church, community or other organizations with members who would be interested in your expertise? Approach the person in charge of booking their speakers with attention getting headlines, topics and presentation ideas. Give them highlights of what their attendees would learn or what they would walk away with but don t show them your whole presentation. Offer to speak for no charge at first and then as you get more known, try charging for your time; some organizations will pay, some won t.
5. Are you publishing an ezine? Make sure you are. You ll want to send it out to your opted in list, advertise the ezine online so others can sign up and promote it on your website. The more followers you can get regularly through email marketing or other marketing, the more referrals or opportunities you ll get to speak at events, be quoted in publications or be highlighted in some other way.
These are just a few ways to increase your expert status. Most of all, you want to be On Top Of Mind with everyone who knows or comes in contact with you. You want to become the go to person in your field; this is how you become an expert. Good luck!!

Design a "portfolio corner" on your website to showcase your craft so visitors will have an idea of the quality of your work. 5. Be positive. Even though the whole world is dragging you down, do not let it affect you. What you need to persuade people is to let them feel what you feel about the product or service you are presenting to them. Your words are your power. If they can read and feel that your words seem weak, they will never become aware that you and your work exists. Write positively. Make your words affirmative. Let them feel your words.

First, you may want to look at importing and exporting. Though importing, you could provide a greater variety to the product you re selling with similar products from other countries. As I stated before, if your product is weather or season dependant, exporting could benefit you during those several months out of the year when your product is not needed.
Consider adding mail order services to your present business. You can increase your selling power by using this method of selling which is favorable to international trade. The internet is a prosperous way that businesses are getting the news of their products worldwide. Use websites, online stores, and affiliate marketing strategies to obtain foreign business. The internet is not going anywhere anytime soon. And more and more people are jumping on to the whole idea of being able to shop at home. Get your product online so that it can be seen by people everywhere there is an outlet and electricity!!!

Finding The Right Home For Your Sales Skills

It s that time of year again when salespeople peak their heads up from their cubicles to see if there is a better opportunity out there. So, what do I mean by that time of the year? Actually, it s most every day. The way most salespeople are wired, they have an insatiable urge for more. More money! More responsibility! More, more, more! Recruiters will often tell you that it is easy to get salespeople to consider a new opportunity regardless of their satisfaction level with their current job. As one recruiter shared with me, The mere mention of the possibility of more money gets the engines going with salespeople.
This is where many salespeople are to be held responsible for sales marriages gone wrong. They are too easily blinded by the hopes of more dollars in their wallets. They fail to look at all of the criteria that affect success. Don t get me wrong. Money is important, very important. However, focusing on money as a primary decision point makes the dollars a mirage. I remember those old Indiana Jones movies where Indiana would be thirty feet away from the treasure. A few quick steps and the treasure would be his. Or would it? Lining the thirty feet of cavern were the dead bodies of those who attempted to merely grab the treasure. Indiana strategically approached the treasure to ensure he got it, and equally important, survived the venture.
The treasure for salespeople (also known as commissions) can be wrought with the same peril. If the employer presents a $250,000 opportunity, but the skills or activities required are not your strengths of, will you ever see those dollars? Highly unlikely. When I lived in the Washington D.C. Metro area during the dot-com craze, I saw many of my friends leave solid sales positions with Microsoft, Oracle, and Cisco for the chance at millions of dollars in stock options. For most, it was truly a mirage. Why?
Imagine, for a moment, you are calling on an IT manager representing Cisco. Just say the name, Cisco, and poof, you have an appointment. The same is true for Microsoft, Oracle and other big name technology brands. Changing gears, you are now selling for ABC IT Services. You place a call to the IT manager and it is not received with a welcoming reception, but rather skepticism and disinterest. The successful salesperson needs the skills to get in the door with this IT manager before any buying facilitation can begin. If your background has been selling household brands and you haven t had to do this before, how likely are you to be successful at doing it unless the company is willing to teach you that skill?
For salespeople to put together a healthy, successful sales marriage with an employer, they need to formulate a profile just like employers do when hiring salespeople. For salespeople, it is the profile of the ideal sales opportunity. To formulate the profile, a historical and futuristic perspective is needed. The convergence of the two yields the profile.
To begin the exercise for formulating your profile, answer the following questions for each sales position you have held. Be totally honest with yourself in performing this exercise.
Historical Strengths a. What are the attributes of the products that you sold? (tangible, intangible, product, service, etc.)
b. What is the nature of the buying relationship? Is it a one-time, transaction sale or a repetitive, complex one?
c. Is the product a component of something broader (niche) or is it a comprehensive solution?
d. How recognizable is the product and company in the marketplace? Does the market know the brand?
e. In contrast to the competition, where is the product priced?
f. How are leads generated? (self-generated, company-generated (warm), mailing lists, etc.)
g. What is the average length of the buying process?
h. Is the product off the shelf or does it require you to creatively build a solution?
i. At what level is the purchasing decision made? Who are the other buying players that influence the purchasing decision?
j. What sales support is provided by your company? Are you expected to go from end to end or are you only expected to handle certain parts of the process?
Once you have completed this question series for each of your sales roles, the next step is to review your responses to those questions in search of commonalities in your background. This will allow you to complete the statement below which specifies your historical strengths
Historical Success
I have extensive experience in selling a , , (1a, 1b, 1c, and 1d) product that is (1e) positioned in the marketplace. My role in the buying process included: , , (1f, 1h, and 1j) which included working with (1i) -level executives in a buying cycle that averages (1g).
Moving to the second part of formulating your ideal sales opportunity profile, you will identify the criteria for your next sales role. What is important to you in your next home? Answering the series of questions below sheds light on that direction.
Future Desires a. Company Size. Quantify in terms of revenue, employees, growth, or other metric(s).
b. Market Position. (market leader, new provider, high value/price, etc.)
c. Breadth of Offering. (comprehensive solution or niche provider)
d. Buying Process Support. What sales support do you need to be successful (marketing, lead generation, subject matter experts, etc)
e. Sales Management Support. It is important to be truly honest here. Salespeople are quick to respond that they dislike micro-management. Be specific to the support you need to be successful.
f. Stability (what is your tolerance for change?)
g. Personal Development (what do you desire to learn from this company?
With part 2 complete, you are able to provide a laser-focus direction to your search. This is extremely important when communicating with recruiters or searching for jobs online. This allows you to say:
Future Role
The type of role that is best for me is with a company that is (3a), that is a (3b) offering a (3c) solution. I operate best in environment that offers in terms of buying process support and (3d) (3e) for sales management support. An environment that is (3f) and offers me the opportunity to learn (3g) is best for me.
Putting these two components together rounds out your ideal sales opportunity profile. You now have clear direction on your historical strengths and future desires. What do you do with this information?
Make sure your resume and cover letter communicate a consistent message regarding your historical strengths and future desires.
Contact recruiters and share this with them.
Use key words from the profile to search online job boards.
One final thought on the exercise of finding a new sales home. When you are interviewing with the company, keep in mind that you are also interviewing them to see if they meet your profile. It s all about putting together a strong, healthy marriage founded on synergies between your needs and desires with those of the employer.

The Power Of Doing One More

In athletics, the difference between first and second place is often a small margin. In such a close contest, the amount of effort put in preparing for and going after the championship is almost identical. Usually, it is just a little extra effort that puts one over the top.
A great lesson can be learned from professional weightlifters. These athletes use repetitive sets of exercises to add muscle bulk when training for a contest. They understand that the first set is not the one that has the most impact. The set that does the most for them is the last set. It is the reason why people in gyms all over the country are always trying to do one more set. Proportionately speaking, that single exercise may have more impact on muscle growth than 75% of the workout. That is how powerful that act of doing one more is.
Over the years there have been many names used to describe this concept. The one that is most common is going the extra mile . It is a useful concept for transforming our lives. If we can apply this mindset to everything that we do, proportionately speaking, we will improve our lives substantially. All areas of our lives are instantly transformed with the mental shift. Our actions suddenly propel us towards our goals at a higher velocity.
Sales trainers hammer this concept in all their coaching. It is shown that the most productive sales people have the continual inner drive to make one more call. From a statistical perspective, an extra call a day results in about 240 more calls per year. This is the equivalent of 12 days worth of in person marketing calls in many industries. The top producer created an extra two weeks when compared to the average person. It becomes easy to see how they can average a few more sales per month.
This concept pushes one to do those things that others will not. This is exactly what the most successful people do. They are willing to do what is required to achieve the pre-determined results. Business people put in the hours to erect the systems that create the income desired. Husbands/Wives do the things that continually lets their spouse know how much they are loved and appreciated. World class athletes dedicate the time to training when they prefer to be elsewhere. Parents invest the time with their children teaching them values while providing a loving, safe haven for them to grow. Success in any endeavor necessitates a willingness to do what is required.
Most people remain in their comfort zone. In their quest to avoid pain, they cease to try new things. Unfortunately, one of the greatest ways to strengthen our capabilities is to expand this zone. The more that we are willing to stretch ourselves, the more we will grow. Often, do one more is uncomfortable. We want to stand pat on what we already accomplished. However, the ebb and flow of the universe dictates that nothing stands still. If we are not moving forward, then we are stepping backwards. Going the extra mile ensures that we at least keep pace with the rest of the world. Typically, it enables us to far out pace those around us.
This simple concept will turn an average life into an extraordinary one. It allows people to become stars in their own lives. Similar to athletics, the minimal difference in effort yields a tremendous difference in results. Each day builds upon the previous day. The cumulative effect over the course of a year is astounding. While it is almost invisible in the short term, the long term results puts us in an entirely different place. Just like compound interest does not have much impact in a years time, it s influence is huge when looked at over decades. The longer one goes the extra mile, the better one s life becomes.

Set Your Business Apart With A Unique Selling Proposition

Unless your company has absolutely no competition now or in the forseeable future, you re well advised to find and develop a unique selling proposition (USP) that differentiates your business from all of your competitors.

For you to succeed, you have to identify and understand what you or your business does or can start doing for your prospects and customers that provides them with a result that is superior to the competition s. This is called your unique selling proposition (USP). Your unique selling proposition is the distinct advantage or benefit that sets your business apart from the competition.

Your unique selling proposition can be quality, service, speed, convenience, experience, low prices, selection, or any other attribute you want your company to be known for. The important thing to remember is that before you can get a greater share of the market, you first have to get a greater share of your prospect s mind. And you can do this by selecting and developing a unique selling proposition.

Your unique selling proposition should be one that is a natural benefit offered by your business. Never offer a USP that is false. For example, if you are a high-priced consultant or run a high-line retail store, you shouldn t consider lower prices as your unique selling proposition.

Here are a few examples of possible USPs:

1. A broader selection.

2. Bigger discounts.

3. Better advice and assistance.

4. More convenience (location, quick service, immediate delivery, Web site).

5. Top-of-the-line products.

6. Faster service.

7. Service above and beyond the basics.

8. A longer and more comprehensive warranty or guarantee than the norm.

9. Providing superior quality.

10. Any other distinct advantage or benefit you can give that the competition doesn t.

The possibilities for building a USP are unlimited. The important point, is to focus on one niche, need, or gap that is most sorely lacking in the marketplace. It s best, however, to adopt a USP that dynamically addresses an obvious void in the marketplace that you can fill. Above all, never adopt a USP that you cannot fulfill the promise for.

In choosing a unique selling proposition, keep three factors in mind, your competition, your target audience, and your operation. Make sure you pick a unique selling propostion that fits well with all three.

All of your marketing should create a deeper connection between your company and your unique selling proposition. For example, you can choose quality as your USP, while still promoting your service and location. But you ve got to communicate the idea of quality in all your marketing, from your sales presentations to your direct mail letters, from your advertising to your Web site. When your prospects think of your company, they should think of quality. And make sure you consistently deliver quality in everything you sell and do.

If you don t offer a clear and meaningful unique selling proposition, you re business will stand for nothing. For example, if a business just offers a convenient location, why should they get much patronage if they fail to offer any appealing promise, unique benefit, or special service? Customers expect to be treated with special regard in exchange for their business.

Successful companies study their market looking for unoccupied niches. That s why they own a large part of the respective market. These companies realize that many products and service categories are vulnerable in areas that no one has filled. So they fill and claim the niche for themselves. And they do whatever is necessary to live up to their unique selling propostion.

The small number of businesses that actually develop and incorporate a unique selling proposition always own a larger share of the market then those without one. By developing a unique selling proposition and incorporating it into every aspect of your business you ll have a major advantage over your competition.

Wrestling with Home Based Business Opportunities!

What s that you say? You say your home business has you frustrated and at your wits end. You say no matter what you try you it seems you re only making the network marketing companies and those guru guys richer. Well, you re probably right. But, so what!
Here s a little story I d like to relate to you about my own life and it has nothing to do with home based businesses. Though, by then end you should be able to draw a few parallels.
As a kid in the sixth grade I weight 198 pounds and I was teased like most fat kids. I hated it. At that time, I played football and I wrestled (heavyweight of course). I was the worst kid on both teams. I hated sports and I probably hated myself for the most part too. Even the coaches made fun of me. I really felt like I had no one on my side. Life sucked.
That went on for a few years. Then in the eighth grade I got a new wrestling coach. A short Russian man named Alex who was very hard to understand until you got use to his deep accent. I still was the worst kid on both the football and wrestling team, but for the first time in my life the coach didn t make fun of me. This guy actually looked out for me.
Call it coincidence, but by the end of wrestling season eighth grade year, I had lost 45 pound and actually looked forward to wrestling the next year. I still wasn t that good, but I didn t hate the sport anymore. The next year I didn t play football, but I started going to wrestling camps every summer and I even took notes. I note here, it wasn t until I went to camp and started to take notes that I really learned the fundamentals of the sport.
Each year I progressively got better from that point on. My junior year in high school I was named to the all county team. By my senior year, I was named to the All-State and All-America team. I even went on to wrestle NCAA Div I for four years in college. Not bad for a fat kid. Get this, my senior year in college I wrestled in the 197lb weight class. That s less than I weighed as a sixth grader!
I tell you this little story first to take your mind of your home business woes, but second to illustrate a few points to you. One person can change your life if you let them. Finding a good mentor that will support you even at your lowest points is worth more than any amount of money can buy. But, don t expect that mentor to have all the answers. Go out and learn what you need. Make sure you re fully versed in the fundamentals. After this your only limiting factor will be you.
One more thing, I started wrestling when I was 12 and I wasn t that good until I was 18. Developing the proper skill sets that will work for you based on the fundamentals will take time. But if you take that time, the rewards will vastly outweigh the short term growing pains of getting there. If your home based business sucks right now, so what? Wrestle with it!
